Burg-Wächter TSE Set 4001 Home MCR Review
Burg-Wächter is a very well known brand with their high performance products. Burg-Wächter TSE Set 4001 Home MCR is one of their most popular smart lock solution to apply on Euro Profile Cylinder locks. Technically this product is not a 100% smart lock because it can not be controlled over the app but still deserves a place in this category. We will try to explain you all details of this lock in our post. Hope you will find all the information valuable for your purchase decision.
Keypad Of Burg-Wächter TSE Set 4001 Home MCR
System is working with only keypad. Only 6 digit passwords are allowed to use. You can program 1 master code which is the only one that will be used to lock/unlock the door. Master code is set to 123456 as default so you should change it as the first step. Using the master code as daily usage is not a very secure way and can be potentially dangerous. We were expecting to see more code memories for other members of the family etc. If you want additional solution you can buy up to 5 TSE E-Keys and use them as remote controller.
Keypad can be mounted to maximum 4 meters distance from the cylinder part. It is mounted to door frame with 4 screws. We are very surprised to see that there is no Backlit on the keypad so you can have trouble in the dark. System is also not pulling the latch and not opening the door for you as we have seen at Desi Utopic R and Nuki Smart Lock 2.0.
It has very smooth and simple usage. When you enter the correct code you will have 6 seconds to turn the cylinder. Keypad is communicating with cylinder by radio frequency. It has a strong structure so it wont be effected by the weather conditions. Keys are a little rigid and can start to hurt your fingers very soon so if you have sensitive fingers you must be careful about this.
If you are having difficulty to make the keypad work you can try to change the radio channel of the keypad. It has 12 channels and the one which is active might already be used by your Wi-Fi. By default channel 1 is active. For step by step process please read the manual which is under the installation process part.
Battery Life of Burg-Wächter TSE Set 4001 Home MCR
Burg-Wächter TSE Set 4001 Home MCR Wireless Door Lock consists of two units. Keypad is powered by 2 x AA Alkaline batteries and cylinder lock part is powered by 2 x AAA Alkaline batteries. All of these 4 batteries are included on the package. This smart lock has very little battery consumption since it is only working with radio frequency.
If your batteries are full you can expect to have at least 1,5 year of usage without changing batteries. For long usage we always suggest batteries as Duracell Plus Power. To change the batteries of keypad just remove the cover by pressing its detent notches on both sides with a pointed tool towards inside and slide it up. Process for the cylinder part is also easy. Just unscrew the cover of the knob by allen wrench and change batteries. Below you can find the photo of the battery indicator. When that symbol turns on you should change the battery.
Installation Process of Burg-Wächter TSE Set 4001 Home MCR
First of all please make sure that you have a door with thicknesses up to 120 mm (from 30/30 to 60/60) to install without any problems. Burg-Wächter TSE Set 4001 Home MCR Wireless Door Lock has very easy installation process just similar to Desi Utopic R. First you have remove the one screw which holds your existing cylinder and then take it out. After, you will insert the cylinder of Burg-Wächter TSE Set 4001 Home MCR and tighten the screw you removed. Finally insert the interior side knob to the cylinder and tighten the screws on the knobs at each side with with allen. It will take around 2 minutes totally. You can find the Burg-Wächter TSE Set 4001 Home MCR user manual here.
Controller Options
Burg-Wächter TSE Set 4001 Home MCR Wireless Door Lock has only one type of extra contoller option. It is TSE 5103 E-Key which is working as remote controller. You can program up to 5 of these TSE E-Keys to your lock. You should be around maximum 3 meters of your keypad to use this product.
Design is very simple but pressing the button is a little difficult. Ladies with long nails can have problems while trying to press the button. It is also not very easy to program and pair to your keypad. Sizes are 3.9 x 1.1 x 7.2 cm and having 99.8 grams. As you can understand from the sizes it is a little bit big for a simple remote contoller as this. You can find all programming details at the user manual we shared above.

Cons and Pros of Burg-Wächter TSE Set 4001 Home MCR
Burg-Wächter TSE Set 4001 Home MCR Wireless Door Lock is a well working and simple solution. If you are 100% sure that you will never need your key again then it is safe to use this smart lock. Cylinder does not have mechanical emergeny opening option. This is a litle bit risky situation because there is no guarantee when you will have an emergeny situation and need to open the door immediately.
Cylinder is also not opening or locking the door. When you enter the correct code it just lets you to turn the knob in the direction you want. Wi-Fi of your neighbours also can be a problem if they change the radio channel to your lock’s channel. One day you can find yourself in front of the door with nothing to do.
Burg-Wächter TSE Set 4001 Home MCR Wireless Door Lock is completely plastic. When you look at this product in your hands you will start feeling as if you can really trust and install this smart lock to your door. It does not give you a secured feeling.
To be honest, this smart lock would not be our first option if we had to choose one of the Euro Profile Compatible Cylinder locks. Nuki Smart Lock 2.0 and Desi Utopic R are far much better than this smart lock. If you just want to press the keys and open the door and don’t care about mechanical opening ability at emergency cases then this is an ideal solution for you. If you don’t feel safe enough you can have a look at comparison chart above. We listed other models of Burg-Wächter at there. Below you find the cons and pros:
